The three c’s by Roosevelt: 1) control of corporations2) consumer protection3)conservation of
resources.
Consumer protection: he was upset with the way that food was being lead and packed, and the main
uproar came up from the book by Sinclair “the jungle”. Roosevelt said he was aware of what was going
on in the meat packing industry, Theodore urged congress to pass the meat inspection act of 1906.-
meat shipped overs state lines will be subject to federal inspection. Also this report by the commission
led to the pure food and drug act of 1906. The pure food and drug act of1906 was passed to prevent the
miss labeling of foods and drugs.
Roosevelt conservation: Roosevelt was an outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hiking. He
enjoyed being close to nature, he was a weakling, he suffered from asthma he was small for his age. He
realized he needed to start coming to better grasps with a health formula for himself. So when he was
younger he would make himself go outside and explore. He wanted to protect nature, he wanted the
resources and beauty to continue to exist. He wasn’t opposed to big business using CERTAIN areas of
natural resources, he did object to big business constant greed and depleting constant using of the
resources. To help to conserve the landscape; he appointed a public lands commission in 1903, the
purpose was to survey public lands. This commission also created a permit system, it was created to
regulate the type and times of the people who used these natural resources. Roosevelt also authorized
the hiring of university trained experts to replace the local politicians when it came to conservation. He
did this because he trusted them and they knew how the environment really worked. Roosevelt decided
