Title Slide: Good morning. My topic is the red carpet. More specifically how women are
treated on the red carpet. As most of you know the red carpet is where celebrities walk before
award shows, movie premieres, and similar events. The red carpet is lined with reporters from
multiple new outlets ready to ask them questions. The whole thing is a media circus and is
used as product placement for the fashion industry. Live coverage of these events is
broadcasted all over channels like E! News, Entertainment Tonight, Billboard, and news
websites such as The Hollywood Reporter. Needless to say, the red carpet has a huge
audience and reaches a large amount of people. The issue with the red carpet is this: it
focuses solely on a woman’s appearance. When women are being interviewed on the red
carpet, they aren’t asked about their roles or the charities they support. They are only asked
about their dress.

Slide 3: People have finally realized that this is an issue. The same question over and over.
The lack of creativity. The topic that reporters refuse to drop, is tiring. The women in this
industry are sick of it and so are the viewers. Audiences of the red carpet have wanted more
from the questioning for a while. In 2014 and 2015 movements started aiming to ask women
questions that had more meaning than what they were wearing.
Slide 4: Users on social media used hashtags AskHerMore and SmartGirlsAsk to urge press
outlets to ask intelligent questions on the red carpet. This movement was celebrated and
supported by thousands of Twitter users. Users tweeted out questions they wanted asked to
their favorite celebrities. Several magazines posted articles praising the movement and
