Question1: describe the three zones.
These are zones described by Mac McIntire as the levels of decision making at which
employees operate when they are at work. They are explained as the black, green and red zones.
Black zone: This refers to the level of operation that involves all the responsibilities of an
employee. The employee at this zone, operates strictly within his/her job description and job
specification. The zone explores all tasks entrusted to the employee at that job.
Green zone: This refers to the zone at which employees have been empowered to make
decisions about some tasks in the job description. The manager trusts the employees in this zone;
therefore, the employees can make decisions for specific tasks they have agreed upon
beforehand. The employees here have the opportunity to be free and creative to take course of
actions then later inform the manager.
