If I wanted to evoke a startled response using classical conditioning, an example
of this could be by experimenting on one of my roommates that I share a bathroom with.
I would first set a sensor by the door of the bathroom, so that every times she walked into
the bathroom a loud alarm would go off. When walking through the doorway, her
reaction would be to immediately jump and be startled. After this happening for several
days, she would eventually naturally jump a little before even entering through the
doorway. If I were to change the abnormal signal to a loud buzzer sound instead of a
alarm, my roommate would still jump and be startled before walking into the bathroom,
and by the change of the sound, may possibly shake a little in fear. For this example, the
NS would be walking into the bathroom and the UCS would be the alarm sensor going
