An extraordinary Life
Pi’s survival on the Pacific Ocean with a zebra, an orangutan, a hyena, and a bengal tiger
give representation of Pi’s personality. Life of Pi is a novel written by Yann Martel. He wrote a
novel about the life of an Indian boy named Piscine Molitor Patel (Pi) who survived at sea as a
castaway for 227 days with the company of a Bengal tiger. In that time on the sea Pi survived the
sinking of his ship called the Tsimtsum. Pi suffers the lost of his family on the sinking. Now he
is on a lifeboat with four different types of animals finding out how to survive alone in the sea.
The novel begins by with an author that is in India is trying to write about a book that
takes place in Portugal but he was in a struggle that he couldn’t finished the way he wanted it.
Then he encounters with Mamaji (Pis uncle named Francis) and he tell him I have a story that
will make you believe in God. Then the author travels to Canada to talk to Pi about the adventure
that he had on the sea. Pi begins the story in Pondicherry, India where his father put a Zoo and he
lived there with his mom and his brother called Ravi. Pi talks about his early and teen life he had
the called of different religions. He become very closer to the Hinduism, Muslim, and
Christianism. The religions taught him about the acceptance of believing in a God and also that
God is everywhere. Pi was a person that had a love for animals, by growing in his father zoo he

felt that there was a special connection between them and him. “Animals in the wild lead lives of
compulsion and necessity within an unforgiving social hierarchy in an environment where the
supply of fear is high and the supply of food low and where territory must constantly be
defended and parasites forever endured. What is the meaning of freedom in such a context?
Animals in the wild are, in practice, free neither in space nor in time, nor in their personal
relations.” After a long time in living on India, Pi’s father decides that he wants to sell the zoo
and move his family to Canada to have a better life. After that Pi and his family board the
Tsimtsum with all the animals from the zoo. In the time that Pi spend on the ship he has
moments where he and his family encounter an argument with a French cook because Patel
