Reaction paper on the role of Facilities manager
Managing facilities is never an easy task. There are many variables involved in not only maintain the
whole building. The building should also have to be competitive with other buildings through various
improvements. The video which was showed in class is how two facilities managers namely Ms. Celeste
Lok and Mr. Elvin Kwek, from Capita Land do their job on a daily basis. As a Facility Manager they have
to always be in contact with the occupants and project teams of the building.
They have to keep constant communication with them in order to address their concerns within
the facilities. The facilities manager need constant upgrading through various courses. They must be well
versed in technology to keep the building up to date. They have to ensure that the commercial building
has an adequate environment. In the video the facilities manager has made several improvements on
the building in order to maintain competitive advantage. It costed them a huge sum of 92 million
Singaporean dollars.
These improvements involve adding an Indoor vertical garden, Energy features, Better indoor air
quality as well as other technological features such as the touch screen assistant. Becoming a facility
manager, a person needs to be very dynamic for, it is a dynamic profession. They constantly interact
with different buildings and people. They need to continuously improve in order to adapt with the
different changes brought about by technological advancements. They need to identify the ever
changing needs of its occupants
