Argumentive Essay
Breastfeeding has several health benefits for the newborn as well as the mother. The health
benefits of breastfeeding are: lower risk for breast cancer, weight loss after pregnancy, and
an opportunity for the mother to bond with the baby.
Breastfeeding babies have been around since the beginning of mankind. It is only until
recently that society has realized that breastfeeding is beneficial to the mother and child.
Breastfeeding is when a child nurse’s from the mother’s breast to receive milk. The milk
provides vitamins and nutrient that is necessary for the baby’s development. The mother
benefits from the baby breastfeeding because it is known to lower breast cancer, and help
increase weight loss after pregnancy. Mother’s who breast feed burn large amounts of
calories per day which allows a mother to lose any excess weight faster. It also said that
breast milk increases blood flow in the breast which allows a mother to decrease their
chances of getting breast cancer.
Many women are now turning to breastfeeding to take advantage of the health benefits of
breastfeeding their child. Breastfed babies are said to be healthier and have a reduced risk
of becoming sick, learn faster than formula fed babies and mature quicker than formula fed
babies. American Academy of Pediatrics reports, “One large study by the National Institute
of Environmental Health Sciences showed that children who are breastfed have a 20
percent lower risk of dying between the ages of 28 days and 1 year than children who
