A. Outline: (10 pts.)
1) Thesis Statement (2 pts.)
Due to their important role in protecting ecosystem integrity, mitigating climate change and promoting
resource efficiency, environmental regulations are indispensable for ensuring sustainable development by
ensuring that economic growth is compatible and balanced with environmental protection.
2) The arguments of the research paper (3 pts.)
a) The first strong argument (from Article 1) (1 pt.)
Preservation of Ecosystem Integrity
Ecosystem integrity would be safeguarded by environmental regulations. These rules reduce the negative
effects of development on biodiversity and ecosystem services by controlling pollution, habitat loss, and
resource depletion. For example, tough laws on emission reduction and waste disposal help prevent air and
water contamination thereby protecting ecosystems and the species that inhabit them. The lack of these
measures could result in irrevocable harm that may compromise sustainability for activities such as economic
enterprises depending on ecosystem services if left to freely exploit natural resources.
b) The second strong argument (from Article 2) (1 pt.)
Mitigation of Climate Change
Healing climate change is very important for sustainable development, and this would not be possible
without environmental regulations. The rules which advocate for reduced greenhouse gas emissions, increased
use of renewable energy sources, and energy saving skills are the key to fighting against climate change. These
regulations do not just prevent climate change but also offer an opportunity for promoting green innovation and
economic diversification through setting emission standards, embracing clean technologies and encouraging
sustainable practices. If strong environmental regulations fail then the impact on global ecosystems, economies
and societies will be severe as climate change will worsen over time.
c) The third strong argument (from Article 3) (1 pt.)
Argument 3: Promoting Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy
