Course Description:
This is a survey course in reading fiction. We will be reading the works of numerous authors
while studying the importance of their art in the context of world literature. By the end of the
semester students must be able to write about and discuss a piece of literature using the terms
and definitions learned in this course. Students must be able to trace and explain certain ideas
and themes as expressed by authors through time. Students must be able to recognize
individual authors and their work, and explain why both are important and relevant to world
