The story “A Temporary Measure” by Jhumpa Lahiri, depicts the story of a marriage that
is in danger of a separation. With overlapping indications and distant strokes, the love disappears
little by little and the physical silence remains between a man and a woman. Shoba the wife, who
I consider to be the protagonist, and Shukumar the husband, who I believe would be the
antagonist of this story. It all begins with a notice that warns of a power outage for the next five
nights because of a snowstorm. To which Shoba responds, “It’s good of them to warn us” (Lahiri
