Introduction of GMOs Into the American Market
Organic food refers to the products produced through a farming system which does not
incorporate any form of synthetic additives such as the livestock feed additives, growth regulators,
pesticides or the human-made fertilizers. Organic food production is normally geared towards
economic, social and environmental sustainability. The genetically modified organisms (GMOs)
on the other side refers to the transgenic products that have been manipulated through the transfer
of genes of a given species to the other one of interest with the aim of increasing productivity,
achieving a given taste or adding a specific nutrient into the final product. The production of
genetically modified food has increased over the last decade, and it is soon likely to concur the
American market that is now flooded with the products. Scientists have come more innovative to
produce food products as per their interest within their desired time and size (Vigani, Mauro, and
Alessandro 34). The scientist aims at shortening the planting and ripening period for the food
products especially for fruits such as mangoes and tomatoes plus also improve the texture, color,
flavor, nutritional content and shelf life of the products. However, the genetically modified foods
have brought in many aspects that has both direct and indirect impact on the nation`s gross
domestic product, unemployment, and the inflation rate compared to the organic food products.
This paper therefore determines and elaborates on the impact of introducing the genetically
modified food products into the American market over the organic food products in regards to the

three main macroeconomic elements which include the rate inflation, unemployment and gross
domestic product (GDP).
The production of organic food products is usually associated with natural growth where
the plant is grown and left to grow under the care of a farmer gradually without incorporating any
synthetic additives that may manipulate the outcome or content of the final product. Production of
the organic food products may incorporate the use of fertilizers or pesticides but only for those
which have been tested and approved by the department for agriculture and rural affairs (DEFRA)
(Vigani, Mauro, Valentina, and Alessandro n.p). The issue of organic and genetically modified
food has risen many debates not only in the united states but worldwide to determine their
efficiency and stability in regards to economics. For instance, the introduction of the gross
domestic products has affected the rate of employment especially in the agricultural sector which
