In the story “no exit”, the three characters end up in the middle of a dream. The characters,
Inez, Garcin, and Estelle are in a room together. At first they are really confused and then they
realized that they are being stuck together as a punishment for their actions. In the story they
make each other super miserable and prove that the death sentence has worked the way it was
supposed to. The room reveals itself to literally have no exit when Garson tries to escape.
Therefore giving the meaning of the title. In the story, hell was a room that had absolutely no exit
and trapped three different people together to drive each other crazy forever.
There are many different views on what happens after death. Some people say that there is a
place called “Heaven” and a place called “Hell”. People believe that if you follow Gods plan then
you will go to heaven whereas if you break his rules then you go to hell. There are also different
theories in between those lines that church leaders teach people.
Other people believe that there is no such being and that once you die, you are just gone. There
is no afterlife. There are also people that believe there is a higher power but they don’t believe
in the higher power or the rules that it may have.
The reader of the story can get an idea of what it’s like to be one of the people that had to go
through the experience of Hell. They may be believers in that kind of theory and be able to
adjust their own life choices based on the behavior of the three people in the story. The people
reading the story also get to see the outside and are able to reflect. Also, another reader of the
story such as somebody that doesn’t believe in a higher power, they can learn what these
people experienced and maybe see if that changes their views.
Overall, the story is a personal experience from three different people and they are sharing what
happened to them. They are also sharing what they did to deserve their consequences. Both
sides can analyze their beliefs and the story and change their decisions and maybe it could
impact their life. They could also just read it as a personal narrative and maybe enjoy it as that.
