Hiding the Truth from the People
We live in a world that hides the truth from us. This happened because we are in a
growing society with people that will believe almost anything they see or hear. Many facts in the
world are hidden from people; this includes political agendas, tax dollar spending, and even what
kind of medicinal pills are safe for people. The media has a huge role of showing one view, yet
many other views could be left not broadcasted to the public. There are many newer ways to get
media information; the use of the internet on cell phones is one of the most advanced methods.
Propaganda is another method to influence the people to believe or follow something that they
usually would not follow. The huge advances in technology over time have allowed for people
to be able to get information faster and more accessible; these advances have grown so fast in
just a few short years. Media, propaganda, and advances in technology greatly influence people.
Discovering the truth about what is really going on in society if these elements were used
responsibly or moderated is the prime focus.
Many people will believe anything that they see or hear; the media is a perfect example
of this; statistics show that 57% of people believe what the media says (Demarco). “Trust in the
media is now slightly higher than the record-low trust in the legislative branch but lower than
trust in the executive and judicial branches of government, even though trust in all three branches

is down sharply this year” (Demarco). Many people now are beginning to trust the media much
more than they did years ago. For example, my friend was watching the news last week and
after watching it he said, “Mitt Romney is going to be the next president.” It was shocking to
hear this because he seems to be someone who hides the truth about what his agenda really is;
my friend is thinking that Romney is trying to take away social security from people who cannot
work. People are used to the media being around that they have no other real source to believe;
their minds just adjusted to the idea that the media is always correct.
Many media type shows and new ways to get information from the media is ever
growing. Shows like “The Daily Show,” “The O’Reilly Factor,” and “Countdown” are common
news programs where people will watch and believe what they have to say, even though they are
not the most reliable sources (Demarco). The most familiar new method for people to get their
