Performance Task #2
How Divorce Affects Children
Introduction
The research study examines the effects of divorce on children. These effects can be both
physical and emotional. Many times, we don’t notice these changes within children when going
through a parent’s divorce; even if we can’t see it, those scars are there, both physically and
mentally. The reasoning behind me choosing this topic is because it’s very important for
everyone to understand the effects divorce has. Parents may not always notice this change in
their child, they are going through as much change as the child. Handling the divorce or trying to
balance being separated from their ex-partner. This is why as a society we must know how to
identify the changes within the kids so we can try to help. Especially parents, they should be the
first person to be looking out for their children a lot more when they are going through a divorce.
If these kids don’t get the proper support or help they need, they can go down a bad path. The
two research questions that drove me during my search were “What are the effects of divorce on
children?” and ”How do these changes show internally and externally?”
Literature Review
50% of all children in North America witness their parents divorce. In most situations,
the kids go from one parent’s house to the others. So, how does the divorce affect the
child/children? Some of these effects can be seen but others can’t. So many kids go through their
parent’s divorce, we should try our best to learn how to support these kids before it is too late.
