In the frontline video it talks about how some people are addicted to the Internet, and how
technology has transformed almost every aspect of modern culture. Similarly, American
Jerk talks about the same thing, that people are wrapped up in their internet and not with
the people around them in the same room. Schwartz points out that we are always talking
to people but not necessarily the same people that are with us. Like on cell phones, social
media, video games, online shopping and other things that are internet accessible. In the
video, it mainly talks about the effect technology has on students and kids rather than
everyone. One point that is made in both Schwartz and the video is that “a large percentage
of people are just clueless, distracted, and self-absorbed, unable to process concepts such
as special awareness.” The internet has become a distraction to some and are ignorant to
what they have been doing to others. Like in American Jerk when Schwartz mentions
people on their phones on the movie theatre and not getting off. Or walking into someone
because the other person is texting or doing something on their phone. In the frontline
video it shows a study about multitasking as well as the test results from college students
that said they were great multitaskers. Multitasking isn’t really a thing though, it is called
task shifting. Which proved their point, there are no real multitaskers the results showed
that their minds were constantly distracted and that their memory is not organized very
well at all.
