Whole Genome Sequencing Technology
What is Whole Genome Sequencing and how does it work?
According to Illumnia.com, whole genome sequencing is “a comprehensive method for
analyzing entire genomes”. Whole genome sequencing allows genetic information to be
studied to determine any inherited disorders by identifying mutations. This technology is
not only limited to humans but also can be used in agriculture as we move toward more
genetically modified foods.
What stage is it at right now? Is it being applied? When will it be ready?
Whole Genome Sequencing has been around since the mid-1990s beginning with
Haemophilus influenzae, a bacterial organism. After that, other bacterial and archaeal
genomes were sequenced and in 1999, the DNA sequence of chromosome 22 was
officially published. Whole genome sequencing has come a long way since the 90s and
