Eligibilities to take Euthanasia
Netherlands
The Dutch Termination of Life on Request Act legalizes Euthanasia in very special cases
and must satisfy the following conditions:
+ The patient is resident in the Netherlands.
+ The patient's pain is unbearable and there is no prospect of improvement.
+ The patient's request for euthanasia must be voluntary (not under the influence of others,
psychological illness or medication) and persistent over time.
+ Patients must be fully aware of their condition, outlook, and options.
+ For patients with dementia, a physician can conduct Euthanasia only if a directive exists,
statutory care is taken, and the patient is experiencing terrible pain with no hope of
improvement, in his or her view.
+ Doctors who are considering allowing assisted dying must consult with at least one other,
independent doctor to confirm that the patient meets the necessary criteria.
+ Death must be performed in a medically appropriate manner by the physician or patient
and the physician must be present.
