People are increasingly turning to electronic media as technology advances. Some believe it
has a harmful impact on people’s relationships. Personally, I disagree with this viewpoint, but
I feel it has some negative consequences, which will now be discussed.
On the one hand, electronic media is likely to be one of the causes of relationship troubles.
To begin with, using electronic media such as mobile phones makes people less
communicative. People may develop a habit of using it to send messages rather than
conversing in person. Second, over use of electronic media may impair communication
abilities. People do not need to use body language, which makes it harder for them to
express themselves when they are face to face. As a result of fewer contacts, people may
develop a lack of confidence, making them fearful of public speaking.
On the other hand, electronic media is an important component in improving relationships. If
sending a message used to take a month, new technology, particularly electronic media,
now allows individuals to get messages almost instantly and even see each other via video
conversations. Moreover, as technology progressed, new social networks such as Twitter
and Facebook arose, allowing users to meet people from all over the world and broaden
their personal ties. Finally, I believe that electronic media has both advantages and
disadvantages. It is entirely dependent on how they are used.
