1. A Water quality analysis report for Alden, NY is posted in myCourses in the homework section. Use
it to complete the following:
a) Draw and label an anion–cation bar chart using the analytical. IGNORE THE MINOR
COMPONENTS with concentrations < 1 mg/L. (Don’t include them in the chart.) Note: The
sums of the cations and anions do not equal each other because this is real data.
b) List the hypothetical compounds in meq/L and convert each to mg/L.
c) Calculate the total hardness as CaCO3 by summing the appropriate cations.
d) Compare the calculated value to the reported value (on the analytical report) and explain why
there is a difference.
e) Using the table below and the calculated hardness, how is this water classified?
