Each one has the responsibility to exercise his right to vote in an election. Election voting pertains to a
person’s preference of candidate between a pool of officials. In a mathematical perspective, voting is
the process of accumulating individual’s choice of candidate, paving the way towards determining the
general preference of the whole group. In line with this, I firmly believe that a two-party is a more
effective and efficient system than a multi-party one. A two-party system pertains to the involvement of
only two political parties as a choice for the voters in an election.
In the Philippines which has a multi-party system, plurality voting is the electoral system used, defining
that each voter obtains once vote for a candidate, and the candidate who got the most among their
counterparts is elected. Meanwhile, we oftentimes have this norm with regards to election of deciding
through” majority wins” concept. Hence, there is a loophole with the plurality system because it
promotes that each voter is allowed to vote for only one candidate, and the candidate who got the most
votes among its counterparts is elected, without necessarily considering an “absolute majority” of votes
which is a person’s number of votes than all other candidates combined. This implies that a chosen
candidate might win due to plurality, yet more people do not want him to be in a position. This
disregards the essence of the system which is to choose the person whom the mass thinks is the most
deserving. On the other hand, a two-party system can simplify the election process. Since there will only
be two candidates to choose from, we can both apply the plurality and the majoritarian electoral system
which is a convenient and reliable process for polls.
What is also good about having a two-party system is that there is fewer candidates to choose from.
Perhaps, others will perceive this as a disadvantage as it limits the voter’s choice between two. But we
frequently hear that “less is more”. Moreover, researchers affirmed that if there are too many selections
