Elder Prisoner Reentry Research
According to the US Bureau of Justice Statistic, U.S. had approximately 2,220,300
incarcerated adults in 2013. Among them, the elderly prisoners is the fastest growing
incarcerated sub-group. However, our current correctional prison system is simply not adapted to
support their conditions or release. Using a number of scholarly articles from the United States,
Britain and Australia, this paper will analyze and compare problems and issues of the
imprisonment and the reentry into society of the elderly inmates.

Currently elderly prisoners make up about 6% of the national prison population.
