Abstract
Certain disciplines often have varying opinions on what they value in scholarly writing. The
biological sciences highly value credibility, thoroughness and organization. Writers in this field
must be able to use rhetorical strategies to appeal to these values. The ability to do this allows
writers in the biological sciences to communicate with peers in their field. Since biologists value
not only the results, but also how the results were achieved, writers must include everything
pertaining to their research in their text. In order for the text to be both thorough and detailed
while still ensuring that it will be understood by the audience, writers in the biological sciences
use APA formatting. Credibility is established not only through the use of reliable sources, but
