Effectiveness of Lotion Advertisements
Every day thousands of women pick up the monthly Fitness magazine. Streaming
through this magazine, readers will find that advertisements are placed throughout the
many workouts, recipes, and articles found within Fitness. Popular advertisements are
those for products for women’s bodies. Amongst these products, Aveeno and Neutrogena
attempt to sell their “natural” body lotions. After viewing both advertisements, the
advertisement for Aveeno’s Active Naturals daily moisturizing lotion is more effective
than Neutrogena’s Naturals multivitamin nourishing moisturizer. Aveeno’s color, diction,
layout, and appeals create a much more effective advertisement than Neutrogena.
To begin, the color from both advertisements has a huge impact on the overall
effectiveness of selling the product. Aveeno’s advertisement is full of color, ranging from
greens, to beiges, to grays. This variety of color catches the reader’s eye right away. In
contrast, Neutrogena’s advertisement takes up a full page as well, but the page has very
little color. The page is all white, with gray words and a touch of green in the picture of
the actual product. This low amount of color doesn’t draw much attention, and many
times the reader will just pass through this advertisement. Humans, no matter what age,
are very drawn to color and often get distracted by it. Aveeno’s page has no white, and
half the page is covered with the image of Jennifer Aniston. This bright image causes
readers to take at least a glimpse of the page.
