1. What further steps could Sharon take to resolve her difficulties regarding her role in
Betty’s classroom?
Sharon could try a different approach with Betty one more time. She can go in with a
fresh start and lead a conversation about how they can make the situation better.
Collaboration is key and if Betty and Sharon cannot share in collaborating, then further
steps must be taken. Perhaps Sharon could suggest using alternative teaching within the
classroom, which would involve dividing the class into one large group and one smaller
group. The smaller group would have more intensive and direct instruction from Sharon
(Lerner, J. & Johns, B., 2015, p. 119). Betty may be more open to this suggestion since
she will have control of the majority of the class and Sharon will be able to focus on the
students that need more direct instruction. There has to be compromise from both
teachers; however, the students IEP’s must be followed. It is important to note that some
of these accommodations may already be listed in a student’s IEP. A small group setting
