(1) What appear to be the problems at this Burger Boy?
The problems Burger Boy branch faces consists of several different things. Number one, the
facility is understaffed which facilitates and the organization as a whole is chaos. Managerial
positions are underpaid which causes frustration between employees. There is a lack of definition
when it comes to each employee’s job description. An example of what workers are exercising is
being forced to manage the order window, the person who is working the register is running back
and forth to help take the orders, and also the managers are requiring the workers to stock. This
is a lack of morale which is creating turmoil and a nonproductive work environment.
(2) How many of these problems could be explained by compensation issues?
Compensation plays a part in many of the issues, for example Otis the Assistant Store Manager
is an employee who puts in about 50 hours or more a week. What drives Otis to work the extra
hours is because he would be compensated for the time and work , being a nonexempt employee
could possibly create an incentive. Also, this could possibly affect the rest of the employees due
to Otis’ diminishing frustration. Otis would boost morale.
(3) How many other problems could be lessened with diligent use of rewards other than
pay?
Nonmonetary incentives are nonfinancial and are an excellent way to increase morale without
costing the company large amounts of money. This Burger Boy lacks heavily in morale and the
organizational culture must be inspected and altered in order for its employees to become
productive. It is very common for staff to call out sick which results in understaffing, however, if
the employees received incentives such as praise, recognition, and a pleasant work environment
they would be inclined to step up, work harder and make sure all the work is completes diligently
