The Ecological Footprint is a tool used to measure resources by various
institutions and governments. The tool was made to give an answer to one question
“How much o the biological capacity of the planet is required by a given human activity
or population?”(Global Footprint Network, 2017). To calculate the answer to this
question it pulls in multiple factors including the biologically productive land and sea
area. This space is occupied by all types of human activities by individuals or entire
regions. However it is not all land and sea space on earth, some of which are not
biologically productive such as the open ocean, deserts and most of the ice caps. For
the current footprint they use global hectares so it makes it to where the data can be
studied and compared anywhere in the world(Global Footprint Network, 2017). An
