In today’s world of smartphones, tablets, and other modern technology there is a huge
potential to make money via e-commerce. There are many people who have strayed away from
the forms traditional shopping and gravitated towards the world of e-commerce. In fact, “e-
commerce sales are growing more than nineteen percent per year with more than eighty percent
of the online population having shopped online at least one time” (Weinstein, M. 2013). As
many companies noticed these trends they began to tailor their business models to meet the
needs of these customers.
Some of the major players in the e-commerce world are companies like Yahoo, Google, and
MSN. There is a common misconception among most people that these companies are paid by
internet service providers and that they profit from people using the internet. However, that is

own specific needs. According to (How Do Internet, n.d.), “internet companies like these are
among the most profitable on the internet and make their money by advertising.” Every time
you type a search in to the search bar there are many companies that are advertising that pop up
in the search results. “These results look like normal search results, but are actually paid ads”
(How Do Internet, n.d.).
So, where do companies like those mentioned above get their ads? “They are huge billion
dollar companies and they need thousands of ads for every little topic someone might search up.
These companies have many services like Mail, instant messaging etc, but also some advertising

ones” (How Do Internet, n.d.). Google also created a service called Adsense. “This service
allowed website owners to fill part of their website with Google ads (from Adwords). In
