The Malir district is the area of Karachi, in Sindh, Pakistan. It is home to Jinnah
International Airport which is Pakistan’s largest international airport. It is the largest
district of Karachi by area, and is regarded as the countryside of Karachi City. Malir is
one of the fastest growing area in the city. Malir has emerged as a mega polis
catering to the largest population in all across the area. All banks, financial
institutions, national organizations have their headquarters in area. It serves as a
military base and residential establishment. Malir has earned the reputation of
melting pot of all ethnic shades of Karachi. Due to its development more and more
people from all across Karachi still want to make Malir their destination for fulfilment
of their dreams. Malir has been regarded in history as the countryside of Karachi City
due to its open atmosphere and lush green farms, but now these are no more. Before
the independence of Pakistan, there were small villages of Sindhi and Kalmati Baloch
in the Gadap Town and Malir Town of modern Karachi. Malir is famous for its fruits
and vegetable farms. The sinking groundwater level has turned these farmlands into
residential areas over the years.
This constant migration into the area has made it the most unmanageable area of
Karachi too. The authorities fail to provide services to its citizens on the pretext of
lack of funding and incapacity. This study focuses on the issues faced by Malir and
indirectly by Karachi due to the ever increasing size and population of the area. Malir
