Drug abuse is one of the most common problems our society faces today. We all know
what drugs can do to us, but do people ever really think about the consequences of using
drugs and what impacts it can do to our community? Drug abuse is a problem that involves
the communities as much as it does to the individual users. There are many ways drug
abuse can affect the community as well as the individual user. When using drugs, people
become unconscious because of what it does to the brain and to the heart. Therefore, those
people that do drugs do not realize how badly they can harm the people around them. Drug
users are normally people who are stressed out with life or people who have lack of
socializing. The many affects that drugs can do to the community as well as the individuals
includes: increase in family stress, crime, peer pressure and significant health problems.
The main reason why individuals use drugs is because they have a lack of socializing.
These people feels lonely and they usually have no confidence in making friends or having
the feeling of being needed and loved. Therefore, the only thing that can help them set
their mind off of loneliness is by using drugs. When using these drugs, it makes them feel
better and forget about everything. Another common reason why they feel that they should
do drugs is because they feel that if they do drugs, other people will then think that they’re
cool and would want to be friends with them. However, this is the wrong way of making
friends. Not only does this affect yourself, it affects the community and people around you.
Second main reason why people tend to do drugs is because of the stress level that they
have. According to The National Survey of American Attitudes on Substance Abuse VIII:
Teens and Parents, an annual back-to-school survey conducted by The National Center on
Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University, they found that the risk
that teens will most likely smoke, drink, get drunk and use illegal drugs increases sharply
if they are highly stressed, frequently bored or have substantial amounts of spending
money (Buddy T, 2007). Therefore when using drugs, it will help these teens or even
adults to relax their mind.
Now that I have discussed about why people do drugs, let’s discussed about what impact it
