Some people assume that the American dream is about only one thing, which is being able to
build wealth and live a rich life. However, in the drama A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry creates
different kinds of characters to show how unique is the American dream for each individual. Each
person in the family thrives to establish his or her own dream, He or she will work hard and try to make
the most out of the opportunities that pass by them during their lives. Each person wants to achieve
their dreams as they are in the country where anyone is able achieve his or her goal by working hard.
Lorraine Hansberry uses Walter’s character to symbolize a dreamer that is wanting to own a
store to make money out of it and spend the money on his kid to make his life better money. As Walter
