Non-participatory behavior usually leads to job dissatisfaction. Douglas McGregor´s
Theory X states that negative employees usually
• Lack responsibilities
• Are always in need of directions
• Lazy
• And dislike work
We can also assume these negative traits are adopted by non-participators in the work
area. In order to find evidence of these negative traits, I would keep close attention to my
team by giving them tasks achievable in the short term to see how they perform. By
observing, I will notice who the under performers are and who really tries to achieve goals
being set. Impacts and consequences that non-participators may bring is that a team will get
behind on schedule, therefore not being able to accomplish goals in timetable manner. The
key piece of evidence I will look for is: who achieves the tasks I will put my team through
in a timetable manner. Being able to achieve tasks when goals are due will keep rhythm
flowing of team members, meaning they will perform as expected by the company. Once I
set the short term tasks for my team, I will be in charge of evaluating their performance by
observing how they do what I asked them to do and if they will do it on time. By doing this,
non-participators will be evidently exposed due to underperforming. I will address this
issue by firstly trying to motivate the team, and if not results are shown, then I would have
to asses to other people more capable for these jobs.
