According to the careerbuilder.com survey, what are the most common bosses?
According to Career Builder, studies reveal that the majority of individuals have “The Buddy
Boss” where your boss is often trying to make a pal or friend out of you. I feel that usually most
people either would not really mind this or just prefer this boss to any other because he or she
doesn’t come off as a pain in the derriere as much as the other boss types may. I actually do
mind this in a way because I tend to feel awkward in these situations and sometimes get
confused as to the boundaries between us and where to draw the line. I actually currently deal
with this at my job. My manager is constantly excitedly screaming “WHAT UP” and “WHAT’S
GOOD” while playfully but aggressively shaking and hugging me. He also unprofessionally uses
horrible slang talk and talks about his personal problems as if we’re acquaintances. I deem it
quite uncomfortable and would rather my boss simply and kindly tell me what needs to be done
day-to-day and leave it at that. The main [out of many] reasons being I can’t relate to his
situations being that we are different genders and are in vastly different places in our lives.
The other common bosses included The Missing Boss, The Tyrant Boss, The Paranoid Boss,
and The Ancient Boss. Unfortunately, I’ve never experienced the Missing Boss, therefore I am
unable to speak on that. Nor have I experiences any of the other but I do find the Paranoid Boss
most comical. I don’t see why one is so insecure about someone trying to take their job when
THEY are the one in that position, meaning THEY were the chosen candidate.
