Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night Analysis
Society tends to have a difficult time with the inevitable, death being the most
tragic of all. There are many different ways people deal with death, whether it is outward
grieving, shutting down, or consent. Although dying takes a huge toll on those going
through it, it also affects those who are left behind. In “Do not go gentle into that good
night”; Dylan Thomas uses the speaker and tone to express the difficulties of accepting
the death of a loved one.
The speaker of the poem passionately commands those of old age not to “go
gentle into that good night”. It becomes clear that he is disputing death and is saying to
fight till the very end and to go out in a blaze of glory. “Though wise men at their end
know dark is right,”(ln 4). The speaker understands that death is unavoidable yet he is
