Intro duction
The workforce has changed over the few years; this evolution is due to
economic and social conditions. Felstead et al. (2002) observe that WLB polices
emerges by politicians and businessmen as a way of showing sensibility to the
workers. As we analyze the external environment, we could identify the main
challenges that companies are facing related to modern society, some of those
changes are: the increment of women into the workforce, single parents family,
dual career and ageing workforce.
Nowadays, personal and professional satisfaction goes together. People are
more interested of finding jobs that suits perfectly their life goals. According to De
Cieri et al, (2007) this has been an emerging challenge for Australian companies.
At this point, managers must develop attractive work-life balance policies in order
to motivate and retain skilled staff.
The main goal for managers is to achieve employees´ satisfaction while
complying with organisations goals. By employing theoretical information we are
going to show several work-life balance policies in order to analyze the impact in
the organisation performance.
Thesis statement
It is a fact that organizations approach of WLB is most likely to be
developed by an economic basis, cost reduction or productivity improvements,
instead of fully interest for the employees During this essay we want to state that

work-life balance essence such as flexibility and family-friendly polices would
increase efficiency and productivity, as well as improve organizations ability of
recruitment and retention. For more detail, we are going to focus on the individual
level improvements that would have a positively effect to the organizational
performance.
Work-life Balance
To begin with, we must have a clear understanding of the concept WLB.
This balance is explained by the relationship between the time spend in work and
non-work activities regardless of factors such as age, race or gender. Having said
so, we can highlight that implementing this polices would reduce discrimination
concerns and increase job opportunities. Besides, it would improve the working
environment and the organisation culture.
