The concept of DNA testing has played a significant role in research but has also
assisted in multiple different fields of study. In the year of 1869, the general bases of
DNA was first introduced by Johann Friedrich Miescher, its structure and properties were
identified in the years that followed. Because DNA plays an important part in the
determination and functioning of individual cells, the amount of data that’s stored within
a person’s DNA is huge. According to (Shashank, n.d.) “a simple E. coli bacterium has a
DNA with nucleotides, which are about 4 million in number, one can therefore get an
idea about how much information is present in DNAs of different organisms present in
this world.” As for forensic science, the use of DNA tests have both solved many
criminal cases and exonerated many individuals that were convicted based on DNA
testing.
