Abstract

Disorders of Sex and Gender are common in society today. These disorders could stand to be

handled differently and studied more for the sake of the clients that are diagnosed with them. In

this paper there are four main questions that are to be answered. These vary in content and they

are: any limitations and barriers?, describing multicultural implications, what needs to be added

to the profession in terms of positively affecting the topic?, and what would a mental health

professional do differently for these types of disorders?. There is no certain case study that will

be followed for the analysis of these questions and the conclusion is based off the answers that

are provided through the research. Disorders of sex and gender are particularly hard to treat,

diagnose and research because they are all so new with little to no prior references and case

studies.

Introduction

Disorders of sex and gender are often complicated subjects in many different ways. Sex and

gender disorders are more prevalent today in society that they ever have been. These disorders

are becoming more and more common and explored. In this overview of disorders of sex and

gender there are three main topics to be discussed. These three topics are: multicultural

implications, limitations and barriers, and things that could be done differently than they have

been in the past. Disorders of sex and gender are somewhat complicated, but the more advanced

society becomes the more these type of disorders are brought to light.
