Chapter 2
Discussion Questions
1. Why do you think Washington chose not to serve a third term? What does this say about
his leadership? Use terms from the text.
Washington didn’t serve for a third term likely because he didn’t want to come off as a leader
who thought too much of himself. I also think he wanted to set a precedent for future presidents
to do the same and it would prevent leadership that would ever be unwanted if a president were
allowed to continue. This shows qualities of good leadership because as it mentions in chapter 2,
Washington showed “great moral character” and “wisdom” for future presidents to follow.
2. What trait would you say is the most important of the six discussed in the chapter? The
least important?
The most important trait that was discussed in this chapter is charisma because, part of this trait
revolves around all other aspects of being a good leader and charisma pushes a leader to be better
and improve on all other aspects. The least important trait would be intelligence. This would be
least important because if a leader can manage to master the other traits of being a good leader
then, his intelligence or how smart he/she is wouldn`t matter.
