Is a person born a genius or made a genius through education and hard work, I believe this a
controversial question for sure and I personally believe that it is a little bit of both because a
lot of people see similarities through families for example a mother and or father may be
“gifted” in music or art, then their children become gifted as well. This can happen because
parents teach the skill young or the children show interest and skill early as well with no prior
influence. With this, I believe it is both education and hard work as well as genetics. Does
this mean individuals are born with a natural gift for music (nature) or did they just work
harder than other people to be that good (nurture)? I believe that this too is a torn answer too
given my personal experience. I was born “gifted” with music I picked up various
instruments like it was my first language at the age of 4 years old. I started with flute, then
violin, then saxophone, and built on them as I grew. Each one easier than the last and felt so
natural and things came to me I could have never explained. I also possess artistic abilities
but they were not as natural; they required more practice and dedication. With this being said,
my mother played flute as a child but not as an adult, my father was sporty and worked on
cars, my cousins can do art my great grandma painted and my great grandfather was an
inventor. Next, my brother is an artist but also played the drums but was limited with music,
and my uncle a mildly professional saxophonist. My other siblings could not do instrumental
music but thrived in art, where as I could do both like my older brother but I was limited in in
one of the talents as well. So no one played music in my house through my youth and no one
did art before my siblings in our home so without outside influences how did we become
natural and gifted? I think this is good example to help answer is it genetics or learned.
