1. Chapter 3 IFC textbook: There is nothing that can be accomplished in a coaching
relationship, without trust. Trust is what allows the coaching relationship to grow,
develop and becomes a fulfilling relationship for both the coachee and the coach. IFC
defines this competency as the ability of the coach to create a safe environment that
nurtures respect. In your own words, explain what trust means to you and how you
would convey it to your client? Do you think you would be able to ignite curiosity to
learn and progress without trust? In looking back at your own experience and
development, what made you trust certain managers while distrusting others? What
behavior and markers you think would inspire trust? Take a look at the appendix and
provide few examples (100 words).
Trust is the foundation of effective coaching. Building trust is the start of coaching. I would
convey trust by being confident, respecting clients, and keeping transparency on the
coaching process. I don’t think I would be able to ignite curiosity to learn and progress
without trust, because if I don’t trust my coach or managers, I won’t take their advice
seriously, since I might believe they don’t know me or have bias on me. However, managers
who I trust will write the rules down and be as transparent as possible with me about how
will the coaching or the management on me will work. For example, on the first day of my
