Discussing “A&P”
1. Sammy assumes that Queenie and her family are fun-loving party people. Sammy’s judgments
may not be the most accurate. If Lengel told the story, he would view the girls in a more negative
light.
2. Dramatic conflict comes when Sammy quits when the manager yells at the girls. Conflict is
when Sammy starts talking to his parents.
3. Stokesie is a very important character that helps the story move forward and gives details
about Sammy’s character. He shows how different he is from Sammy, and the other cashers.
Sammy’s character differs from everyone and Stokesie is the best example for this because he is
older, and more mature. Stokesie doesn’t criticize customers and doesn’t judge the way they
dress unlike Sammy. In the beginning of the story the Author tells us that Stokesie is twenty-two
