Q10. Discuss 2 decisions that a company can use to help its’ promotion
process. Write two (2) paragraphs.
The first decision that a company can use to help its promotion process that I
will discuss is decision 1: Is Seniority or Competence the rule. Basing promotion on
seniority or competence can help build a strong foundation for the company by
promoting employees that have been with the company for an outstanding period of
time or are able to show that they possess the knowledge and skills to perform at a
higher level or job function. This decision builds loyalty as well as increases morale in
employees. Promoting based on seniority or competence also encourages employees
to work hard and efficiently, which works in favor for the company. Promotions at this
decision should be fair and helps avoid disputes or favoritism.
Promoting based on competence that can be measured falls in the terms of
using past employee evaluations or other means such as a test, to identify promotable
employees and to measure their job competency. Employers should create a clear and
organized policy that guarantees a reliable and unbiased promotion process. This helps
organizations by being able to place competent and productive employees in
promotable positions, and it should encourage employees to increase their job
knowledge. Promoting based on competence that can be measured, rewards
employees that may have more to offer to an organization.
