Discrimination is one of those cancers that this world cannot get rid of. From the 1960’s to the
21st century discrimination has yet to leave this world. I even face discrimination being a student athlete
with certain teachers. Watching this movie really showed there is more than skin color that can be the
choice of bigotry. Being that I want to be a law enforcement o$cer I have to watch and make sure I’m
always being ethical with my victims. I have seen cops not only choose some ones race but also their
gender. In this &lm I have noticed two theories which was the social learning theory and the con‘ict
theory.
Through this movie I felt as the teacher was trying to raise these kids to grow up thinking a
di)erent away. Social learning theory is when behaviorists hold that learning and social experiences,
coupled with values and expectations, determined behavior. One day the teacher decides to give a life
lesson in class to the third graders. In Iowa this third grade teacher chooses to make blue eyed kids more
superior. So the teacher made up rules that the kids had to follow. She made kids wear collars that
meant they were on the bo.om. The kids who wore the collars had to drink out of the cups instead of
the water fountain. The ones with the collars didn’t get an extra &ve minutes of recess, and was not able
to get seconds at lunch. All the blue eyed kids got their class work done quicker and were way much
happier than the brown eyed kids. The teacher switched the issue the very next day. She had made the
brown eyed kids more superior than the blue eyed kids. So then the kids both got the chance to witness
the pain of being discriminated on. She brought back the kids she actually videotaped years later to
watch what she did to them. The adults were amused on how much her lesson helped them throughout
life.
Throughout the teachers lesson it was a lot of con‘ict with the kids. So many kids were very
unhappy on how bad they were being treated. One kid decided to joke a brown eyed kid because he was
more superior because he had blue eyes. The kid got upset and hit the kid for teasing him. Then as she
had the lesson going on in the class she timed how long it took the di)erent group of kids to do their
work. The superior kids worked way faster than the kids that isn’t on top. As soon as the tables turn the
