Stereotypes within Childrens books
When visiting the Lawrence community library, I rifled through a bin full of colorful children books.
I picked out five book covers that caught my eye, then left without checking out to avoid being able
to choose a different one. The first book I grabbed was “Ladybug Girl Dresses Up” by David Soman
and Jacky Davis. The cover caught my eye because of the bright colors and the fancy font. The book
is about Lulu, a little white girl who loves to play dress up. Lulu shows off several different outfits
such as a pirate, a tiger, a spy, an astronaut and then lastly a Ladybug girl. I found little to no
stereotypes because all character or outfits she dressed up as could have been male or
