Essay 2 Discourse Community
According to zagat.com the average American eats out at a restaurant 4 to 5 times a
week, spending about $3,000 dollars a year per household. The restaurant industry has and
always will be an ever-evolving subculture in our society. What most people don’t realize is how
vital the communication is between the people that work in this subculture. From the server
taking a tables order, servers communicating between each other, kitchen staff communicating
with the servers, and management making sure everything runs smooth between them all, the
