Disadvantages of School’s Grading System
Thesis:The grading scale of A-F or of 1-9 is too strict and does not allow for different types of
intelligence. Instead, grades should be based on the teacher’s comments about the student’s
strengths and weaknesses.
Education is highly important and plays a vital role in students’ life outcome. The main
purpose of it is to teach and guide students, to show them their strengths, lead them to their
interests and lay a path for success. As an essential in today’s society, it promotes knowledge and
opens the door to many future possibilities. Mandela (1990) says that education is the most
powerful weapon which you can use to change the world
, and I could not agree more. But is today’s
educational system doing just that, or is it disabling some of proving themselves and discouraging
them at the same time? Many research studies suggest that the grading system applied in most
countries excludes outer factors such as how people act under stress, loss of interest and focus.
The thing is, when teachers, and society as well, evaluate students, they do that by evaluating their
academic success according to a grading system which may not always do that properly. We are
not defined by our grades, yes, but what if they are the key to enter great schools, win scholarships
