DIABETES 2
Diabetes
The majority of what an average person eats is broken down in the body and turned into
glucose, which travels though the bloodstream. Insulin is a hormone, produced by the body’s
pancreas, which allows blood sugar into your body’s cells to be used for energy. Diabetes is a
chronic disease that affects how your body turns foods into energy. (CDC, 2017). It is divided
into two categories, type 1 diabetes and type 2. An individual with either case of diabetes cannot
produce sufficient amount of insulin for the body, or cannot make proper use of the hormone;
thus causing high blood glucose levels to persist within the bloodstream causing serious
complications over time.
The differences between type 1 diabetes and type 2 are very distinct. Type 1 is were your
body is not producing the sufficient amount of insulin to meet the demand that the body requires.
