As the times change, many differences separate the past from the present. The world
continuously advances in numerous ways so that our generation can become bigger and
better so that we might be an example for generations to come. Often I am told about how
much different my childhood and lifestyle is in comparison to my parents and
grandparents. I can honestly say that one of the biggest differences between my generation
and older generations is the amount of opportunities afforded. As an African-American
female, I am able to pursue any type of goal that I might have set out for myself due to the
struggle from older generations. Although achieving my goals is not easy, it is achievable.
Since opportunities such as going to a good college, obtaining an internship, and
graduating with a good job is now a common goal for most, competition has increased
significantly. Unlike older generations, we must show our commitment to education and
exceed past a diploma and bachelor’s degree in order to compete at being the best. With a
greater emphasis on higher education, our generations are becoming well-rounded and
better equipped to take on certain leadership roles. I think that this difference will impact
and change the future of our country. As new generations come along, we continue to
progress, making our impact even greater within our country.
