My Development Reflection Paper
In taking this course this semester and identifying the stages of development, I am aware
of the things that has molded me into the woman I am today. Looking back at certain milestones
and even recent events; the specific ones that has me bent into the typical way of living. You can
never describe vivid details as an infant because of the age gap from then to now. However, as you
age and come into your own, details are most transcribed and picturesque.
Starting from the developing stages as an infant and the things I may or may not have
encountered. Most people can identify with the bases of infancy being a nurturing time. When
you’re beginning to walk, form words and sentences, identify people and even a few places. It’s
no different for me; I can recall places as well as people from this time. Seemingly, being born a
twin may be a slight differentiation in my development. I say in such because just as I developed
aspects of infancy and maturing, so did my sister. She’s been everywhere I have as an infant so
it’s no spectacular chain of growth I’ve experienced that she hasn’t.
One event I can recall as an infant that has shaped my developed eating habits currently
would be eating seafood. As weird as it sounds, growing up in New Orleans has a huge effect on
the way I eat. At the age of three I was eating a dozen of boiled blue crabs alone. My family
reminds me often of my love for eating seafood. At that age, I knew nothing of what eating a dozen
of blue crabs meant for my health. My young brain could only process that it was delicious.
Now, I visit a seafood restaurant at least twice a week! I can’t explain what it is with eating
New Orleans styled seafood so often, it just happens. Sometimes I like to blame it on the fact I’ve
been accustomed to it at the age of three. But then, I must think of whether I was accustomed to
eating it before then and just don’t recall or remember. In any case, eating seafood frequently so
young and remembering what it was cooked with and the taste it has had an everlasting effect on
my current eating habits.
Stepping into Early Childhood and some of my encounters at this time in my life, I would
like to start with my first year into elementary school. Entering Kindergarten at Andrew H. Wilson
was an experience I’ll never forget. Having to attend this school located across town because my
mother thought the ones near our house were “bad.” This wasn’t a normal elementary school; you
