DESIGN A TOY
The toy that I created is called “Lil’ Zoo Keeper”, which will be a puzzle that
teaches children the alphabet by having animals with their corresponding letter. The
desired age intended for this toy is age three because by this age, their fine-motor skills
are mature enough to be able to pick up small objects (Boyd, 2012, p.152). The
animals (puzzle pieces) will be all different shapes and sizes but they will all fit together
from A-Z. It is the child’s job to put all the animals in their respective spot.
This toy is appropriate for the development of the children since the toy will allow
them to associate animals with the letters. This toy will improve their lingual growth as
well as their problem-solving skills. These are both core points in the cognitive domain.
The “Lil’ Zoo Keeper” will not be successful if it cannot keep hold of the children’s
short attention span. Therefore, the toy will have to have some attractiveness to it. All
the piece will have vibrant colors and unique shapes. The parents can also use them
for story-telling to increase the play value. Not to mention, the children can always just
play with them as figurines since many of the pieces will be animals.
