Nearly a decade after the great recession began Georgia is rebounding quite well; in years
past, we have seen great improvement in unemployment rates, a rise in home prices, and we have
a solid plan towards economic development. In regards to Georgia’s economy, we should expect
to see expansion in 2016 even though in some areas growth may be minimal. According to the
University of Georgia’s 2016 Outlook Georgia’s gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to
increase by 3.3 percent which is higher than the 2.8 percent increase expected for the national
average.
The Great Recession hit Georgia harder than most states in 2007 and it lasted longer than
the national average. While the national average GDP took a five percent hit Georgia’s GDP
plummeted by six percent from pre-recession peak to the lowest point. The average duration for
